What is Depression?
All of us have universally experienced sadness. However, depression is not to be confused with sadness, grief or bereavement. Depression or Major Depressive Disorder is a severe medical disorder that requires clinical or professional intervention.
Some people, however, think that depression is not a real illness. However, they are wrong. Depression is not a sign of weakness or something that you can "snap out of" or "get yourself together". On the upside, there are intervention and treatments for depression, and you CAN reclaim your life.
What are the signs of depression?
Loss of interest or pleasure
Excessive feelings of Guilt or Worthlessness
Depressed or Sad Mood
Difficulty falling or staying asleep.
Sleeping too much
Loss of appetite
Unintentional weight changes

When to seek professional help?
It is normal to feel sad, depressed or not so good time to time. In most cases, this is short-term, and these feelings usually go away by themselves. However, if this feeling persists for longer than two weeks and if this has significantly affected your quality of life, you should seek professional advice.
It is crucial to keep in mind that Sadness and Grief/Bereavement is not the same as depression.
